Our Focus

Investment Themes

Greenstone believes in the future of zero carbon energy generation against market prices, which can be further optimised with the right mix of energy storage assets.  We have identified the following investment themes for the upcoming years:

Merchant Renewable Energy Production

Premium Assets
Wholesale Rates
European Network
  • Wholesale electricity prices in main Eastern and South European countries will support investment in merchant wind, solar and hydro projects.

  • GreenStone’s deep understanding of the European power markets and individual country generation stack models, enables us to originate and develop premium assets in undervalued markets.

  • Given their complexity in structuring against the market prices, asset prices in Eastern and South European markets do not reflect the future market dynamics.

  • Power Purchase Agreements will be based on combination of market pricing and industrial off takers.

Utility Scale Battery Storage Facilities

Longevity Oriented
Economic Benefits
Sustainable Assets
Storing renewable energy is the ultimate pathway to a zero carbon world
  • Combining battery storage units with wind (and sometimes solar) energy production facilities would create more stable generation of the zero carbon electricity.

  • Significant economic benefit, as the option value of the storage component would help to further justify build up in renewables.

Green Hydrogen Production & Storage

Future Proof
Zero-Carbon Energy

Energy solutions remain critical for world growth, but their carbon intensity have driven significant changes in the generation stacks. Over the last decade, we have observed:

The resulting impact of these trends is the increased volatility in electricity prices in major trading hubs around the world. Specifically, this is applicable to Central, Eastern and South European electricity markets, where lack of investment in base load generation and high fuel costs have pushed up the wholesale electricity prices.

Renewables is the ultimate asset for portfolio diversification for any company producing / consuming / trading high carbon intensity commodities (oil, gas, coal). These assets are about to become scarce, especially if they are located in economically stable countries and expected to generate returns. These assets are especially valuable if they are combined with base load generation and battery storage units.

Intelligent selection and development of the wind and solar projects can turn renewable assets into high income stream investments with a potential trading upside. Location of the assets and access to the grid are key factors.

Renewables are “energy sustainable” if combined with low carbon base load generation and ultimately utility scale battery storage.

  • Major shift towards de-carbonation and nuclear phase out in several countries

  • Coal fired generation is becoming a taboo in most of the OECD countries

  • Germany, a European energy powerhouse, has decided to completely phase out nuclear generation

  • The same timeline has seen a major build up in renewable energy capacities

  • Significant capacity in wind and solar generation have been built around the world
